Know what each setting changes.
Range split
Define explicit ranges when sections have known boundaries, such as 1-4,5-9.
Visual divider
Mark boundaries on thumbnails when the correct split follows a printed divider or chapter page.
Fixed chunks
Use a repeatable page count for packets, review batches or upload limits.

Do not memorize labels in isolation. Check what each control changes, then read its defaults, dependencies and practical starting point.

Operation
- Purpose and impact
- Chooses between creating consecutive parts and extracting pages.
- Default / valid options
- Split PDF (default) or Extract pages.
- Prerequisite / dependency
- A PDF must be loaded and thumbnails must finish rendering. The split-method controls are hidden in Extract mode.
- Recommendation and use case
- Use Split for sections; Extract when only selected pages should leave the source.

- Purpose and impact
- Defines boundaries for a split operation.
- Default / valid options
- Visual dividers (default), explicit ranges or Every N pages.
- Prerequisite / dependency
- Ranges use |; Every N accepts a numeric value and is clamped to at least 1; visual mode uses thumbnail dividers.
- Recommendation and use case
- Use ranges when boundaries are known; dividers for chapter sheets; fixed chunks for repeatable packets.

Ranges
- Purpose and impact
- Describes one or more output groups in document order.
- Default / valid options
- Default 1-2 | 3-; examples 1-2 | 3-5 | 6-.
- Prerequisite / dependency
- Only visible in Range mode; page values are limited to the source count and empty groups are ignored.
- Recommendation and use case
- Check that every source page is covered once with no accidental gaps.

Pages per file
- Purpose and impact
- Sets the repeated size of each output chunk.
- Default / valid options
- Numeric value; default 2; values below 1 fall back to 1 and the final group may be shorter.
- Prerequisite / dependency
- Only visible in Every N mode. Use a positive whole number even though the field does not declare a step constraint.
- Recommendation and use case
- Set it to the receiving system’s upload limit or a natural review batch.

Extract method
- Purpose and impact
- Controls whether selected pages become one or multiple files.
- Default / valid options
- Every page (default), selected in one or selected separately.
- Prerequisite / dependency
- Extract mode requires selecting pages in thumbnails; no selection produces no output for selected modes.
- Recommendation and use case
- Use Selected in one for an evidence bundle; separately for independent pages.

Output naming
- Purpose and impact
- Creates predictable names for generated files.
- Default / valid options
- Base name text; default source-name-split; count derives from groups.
- Prerequisite / dependency
- Avoid path separators; the tool adds page ranges to multi-file outputs and uses a ZIP when there is more than one file.
- Recommendation and use case
- Include project or section name; confirm the range in each file.
04 / EXPORT CHECKS
Confirm these three things before delivery.
- Keep a copy of the original PDF before creating sections.
- Name or organise outputs so each part has a clear page range and purpose.
- Check bookmarks, attachments and form expectations if the source PDF relies on them.
